History

First hybridized by Toichi Itoh in 1948, The Itoh Peonies are a cross between woody tree peonies and herbaceous peonies. These exceptional intersectional hybrid varieties offer the best of both parents: Enormous flowers and foliage like that of a tree peony, with a prolific blooming habit, vigorous growth and stronger stems that hold up the large blooms without staking. Featuring a lush, substantial form during the growing season, the stems die back in the fall and must be cut back just as with the herbaceous peonies.

Very Pretty Peony
by Flowerchild, May 6, 2017

The rating I am giving this plant is only interim. I think it will take a while to accurately gauge how well it does in comparison with my other Itohs. It is currently in flower in its pot and has beautiful blooms. They are like the photographs. The color is a butter yellow, not quite as dark or intense as Bartzella. It can leave you drooling for more. My big question is why is something this beautiful not more widely available? A group or row of these would be stunning.
