Provide enriched, acidic, well-drained soil. Water deeply, regularly in first growing season to establish root system. In very hot, arid summer areas, best with some shelter from harsh, reflected afternoon sun. Apply an acidic fertilizer in spring. Before new growth begins, remove twiggy growth, leaving only main stems to prevent overbearing.

Blueberries are the most popular native American fruit and recent breeding has extended cultivation well beyond their original range. They are among the fruits richest in antioxidants and are eaten fresh, dried, baked and in jams.
