Grows easily in organically rich, moist, well-drained soils; prefers dappled shade but tolerates heavy shade well. Water deeply, regularly in first few growing seasons to establish root system; once established, water as needed to maintain evenly moist soil. Apply fertilizer before new growth begins in spring.
