loves the heat
by esperanza, March 30, 2018

I live in North Texas also. I have used this plant for years. Sometimes it comes back and sometimes it doesn't. I currently have two in pots that do not seem to have survived the winter, however, the one in the ground is coming up now (late March). It thrives in the summer heat and is a constant bloomer and therefore it is one of my favorites for sunny locations.

Wonderful plant blooms for months
by golden bells, terracota, February 18, 2017

I have had this plant for 15 years. I live in north Texas where this is not native and they say that it is not the correct growing zone. I noticed the first year that even a light freeze knobbled this plant so I cut it back each year in about October or November about the time of our first freeze. I cover it with mulch. Each year this grows back over 6 feet tall and about 4 feet wide (big) but it produces massive amounts of bright yellow flowers from the first heat say April all the way to first freeze in October time frame. Even when it is 105 degrees and restricted watering this thing just wont stop. Bumble bees and honey bees love it as well as birds and butterflies. If you live in southern Texas or someplace it does not freeze you don't have to cut it back it is just a real perennial. Buy this if you can get it.

I hope this helps
