Design Ideas: With its attractive fountain-like flower displays, Fountain Grass is one of the best choices for smaller dry gardens and courtyards. Plant it as foliage contrast and fall color with mixed perennials. Looks best in dry stream beds and around rocks in natural or wild gardens. Shares cultural preferences with many favorite Western native perennials in drought-resistant gardens. Also great for planting next to smaller water gardens, where it won't overwhelm the scheme. Lovely when grown in metal classical containers that bear the unmistakable patina of age, whether true or artificial. Perch these on low walls, seat walls, or on top of masonry columns for a distinctly European look.

Provide average, well-drained soil. Avoid heavy, wet clay soils. Water deeply, regularly during first growing season to establish an extensive root system; reduce frequency once established. Cut back and apply a general purpose fertilizer just before new shoots appear in late winter to early spring.

Near the Fence
by Prairie Planter, May 28, 2019

Our Neighbor has a chainlink fence. It's a pain to keep the grass trimmed under it. So we put down a some landscape rock under and near the fence and then planted Dwarf Fountain Grass. It won't get too wide that it causes trouble with trimming and it will provide some privacy to boot.

Grass is doing well
by JudyK, June 2, 2018

The only problem I've had at the two garden centers I've used is they don't know they are suppose to call the customer when the plant arrives. They think Monrovia tells the customer when the plant arrives. So my plants have sat on the shelf waiting for me to call them. I don't know if my phone number is anywhere on the order. From now on I will take my email receipt to the garden center of my choice with my phone number and give them a heads-up I am expecting something.
