OVERVIEW
Description An exotic yellow variety of tropical milkweed from South America. Large clusters of golden yellow flowers are displayed against yellow-green foliage. This easy care plant mixes beautifully with other tall perennials and is ideal for naturalized areas, meadows, and borders. Prune to the base periodically to rejuvenate plant. In harsh winter areas below zone 8, grow in containers and move to a sunny indoor spot before first frost.
HISTORY
Lore Asclepias flowers are nectar-rich and the leaves are an important food source for Monarch caterpillars. Many sources state that tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) is preferred by Monarch caterpillars due to its tender leaves.
