Thrives in lean to average soils with good drainage. Drought tolerant once established in landscape; water containers when soil surface is dry. Feed with a slow-release fertilizer. I have to grow these in pots here in Houston, due to our gumbo soil - but they are pretty even just the leaves of this plant. Pretty and happy looking plants which I recall from my childhood.
