Average Landscape Size
Moderate growing; reaches 12 to 15 in. tall and wide.
Flowering Season
Botanical Name: Aster novi-belgii 'Professor Kippenburg'
Deciduous/ Evergreen: Herbaceous
Growth Rate: Moderate
Special Feature: Attracts Butterflies, North American Native Selection, Waterwise
Foliage Color: Green
Flower Attribute: Showy Flowers ,   Flowers for Cutting
Bloom Time: Late Summer to Early Fall
Flower Color: Blue
Design Ideas: Use in smaller gardens due to its dwarf size. Like most Asters, this plant is a hardy, late-summer bloomer that can be planted in clusters on the outer reaches of a border. There it will renew the garden by shifting the focal point as other flowers fade.

Thrives in moist, fertile, slightly acidic, well-drained soils but highly adaptable. Prefers cool summer climates. Water deeply, regularly during the first growing season to establish an extensive root system. For a neat, tidy appearance, remove old foliage before new leaves emerge. Divide clumps every 2 to 3 years in early spring.

History

In the Old World, Asters are known as Michaelmas daisies because they bloom around the feast of St. Michael, Archangel.
