Foliage Color: Green

Design Ideas: This exceptional small and bright bamboo makes an excellent ground cover. It is ideal for Japanese and Asian inspired gardens where bamboo is a staple. Dense growth is capable of crowding out weeds in open spaces beneath trees and shrubs in the tropical landscape too. Valued for its texture in the modern garden where forms can be created with geometric precision by controlling its spread. Though quite effective for erosion control, beware potential for invasiveness where conditions are right.

Thrives in fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Water deeply, regularly during the first growing season to establish an extensive root system. Contain with a root barrier or non-perforated pot with lip above soil level. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new spring growth. Prune only as needed to shape.

Most bamboos flower only once in their life span and do so simultaneously the world over.
