Lacy sprays of bright pink flowers with deeper pink centers adorn this rapid climber. Good cover for arbors and fences. An integral vine for southern gardens, this vine thrives on hot walls, and is highly drought tolerant, once established. May remain evergreen in warmest regions.

Design Ideas: This is a beautiful fast growing vine to grow along fence lines and to cloak small structures. Finely twines up espalier wires and treillage. Drape over walls for a truly delicate look. Train up onto shade structures for quick coverage, particularly temporary ones for the summer season. Particularly valuable in extremely hot southwestern communities.

Best in full sun, in soil with ample drainage. Water deeply, regularly in first growing season to establish root system. Once established, reduce frequency; tolerates moderate drought. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer. Provide trellis or arbor support. Prune annually to remove frost damaged foliage and to maintain desired size.

History

Coral vine is a first class bee plant and can be found supporting a huge population of insects whenever it is in bloom. Therefore beware of its use close to living areas and swimming pools. Antigonon leptopus is known by numerous common names, everywhere it grows: Tallahassee Vine, Honolulu Creeper, Confederate Vine, Mexican Coral Vine, Mexican Creeper, Chain of Love, Queen's Jewels, Desert Bleeding Heart, and Queen's Wreath. In other languages, names include: Kadena de Amor, Flor de San Diego, Rosa de Mayo, Corona de Reina, Hierba de Santa Rosa, and San Miguelito, Indigenous populations called it Coamecate, Coamecatl, Chak lol makal, Cuamécatl, Gui-bakushu, Mamasa-sai and Tunuc.

This is the most remarkably stunning vine. Delicate and beautiful. People stop their cars and ask us wh at it is. The hot pink blooms are loaded on the vine and the bees and Hummers LOVE it!
