Design Ideas: This true dwarf redbud has very small unique stacked leaves reminiscent of shingles on a roof, making a striking accent tree for smaller sized gardens, or to anchor a mixed bed in a larger landscape. Under-plant with colorful late spring and summer blooming bulbs or perennials to brighten the dappled shade created as the deep green canopy of leaves emerges. Create an allee with two rows on a back lawn area leading to a forest, natural area or secret garden. Feature against a backdrop of evergreen trees or shrubs, or against a dark wall, where the clusters of light violet flowers on its bare-branches will provide welcome color in early spring.

Prefers deep, slightly alkaline, moist, well-drained sandy loams. Benefits from light shade in hotter regions. Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to establish an extensive root system. Apply a general purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges in late winter to early spring.
